Energy expertise: Q+A With Jaime Addison, Business Development Manager

With a background that spans project management, sector leadership and client services, energy sector Business Development Manager Jaime Addison provides insight into how Rummel Construction drives success for energy clients, overcoming challenges and staying ahead of the curve in a fast-paced industry.

Q: Can you describe your role and responsibilities at Rummel?

A: I’ve been with Rummel for almost seven years, starting as a project manager in the energy sector. Over time, I moved into the role of sector manager before stepping into business development and client services for Emery Sapp & Sons and Rummel’s energy projects. My focus is heavily on client relationships. It’s critical to make sure clients are getting exactly what we promised them and that we’re delivering on expectations from start to finish.

Q: How does Rummel’s expertise translate into the energy sector and why is it a good fit for energy clients?

A: Energy projects often come with some logistical challenges. What sets Rummel apart is our established relationships with suppliers in the region. Building access roads and sourcing materials are the keys to any successful energy project. We’ve earned a reputation for making that happen. Whether it’s a remote location or tight deadlines, we know how to move dirt, source materials and get the job done right.

Q: What are some of the key challenges energy companies face today and how does Rummel address these challenges through their services?

A: A big challenge we see across the board is the remoteness of many energy projects. These sites are often located in areas that are tough to access and can cause problems, from logistics to material sourcing. Rummel’s relationships with local suppliers, trucking companies, water sources and subcontractors help us mitigate those issues. We’ve built an extensive network that enables us to keep projects moving forward smoothly, no matter the location.

Q: In such a dynamic, fast-paced industry, how does Rummel maintain a competitive edge? What technologies or approaches set you apart?

A: We’re ahead of the curve when it comes to technology. From estimating to project management, we incorporate the latest tools like AGTEK, AutoCAD, Trimble, Smartdirt and CAT cycle time analysis. These technologies help us keep projects on track and make better decisions faster. Staying on top of the latest advancements ensures that we’re not just meeting industry standards — we’re setting them.

Q: Can you share a recent example where Rummel’s heavy civil experience made a tangible difference for an energy client?

A: We were awarded a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Coolidge, AZ. Part of the job involved importing 20,000 cubic yards of engineered fill. The local material didn’t meet the specifications, but we had the experience and resources to find an alternative source within a reasonable distance. This not only saved the client time, but it also saved them money and kept the project on schedule. It’s that kind of experience and problem-solving that make Rummel stand out in the energy sector.

Q: Safety and risk management are crucial in both construction and energy projects. How does Rummel prioritize safety, especially given the complexity of energy projects?

A: Safety is non-negotiable at Rummel. We were recently certified as a Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) with the Arizona Department of Occupational Safety and Health, which speaks volumes about our commitment to maintaining a safe work environment. Our safety numbers are consistently well below the national average. We take pride in our commitment to safety over production.

Q: Looking ahead, what do you see as the biggest opportunities for growth within the energy sector and how is Rummel positioning itself to take advantage of them?

A: The biggest opportunity right now is in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and solar projects. BESS sites are becoming more common. Now that the panel shortage issues have been sorted out, solar projects are gaining momentum too. For the next 3-5 years, the push for renewable energy infrastructure is still going to be strong. At Rummel, we’re an experienced project partner in the market. Our experience with complex, large-scale civil work and our relationships with suppliers give us the edge to take on these projects, no matter how big or remote.

At Rummel, we build relationships, solve problems and deliver results. As the energy sector evolves, Rummel continues to adapt, delivering energy projects on time, on budget and with the highest standards of quality.
